New Year

tenor

Good morning everyone!

I’m going to start off this Monday with some bad news. The Final Shade of Fifty is going to be on hold, indefinitely.

Here’s where I’m at.

I started this story with one idea, and realized about half-way through that I wanted to go in a different direction. But the problem with doing that when you post weekly is that the stuff you want to scrap and do differently has already been published. I can’t really just start over. So, now I’m in a position where I either have to try and ret-con everything I did in the beginning, which would make the first 20+ chapters of this story completely pointless and would make this book 60-70 chapters long, or I’d have to do some things that would betray the characters that I’ve spent 3 books creating. Neither are great options, so I’ve decided after weeks and weeks of internal struggle, that I’m going to just put this on a shelf for awhile.

The other half of this is that I’m just really more interested in creating original content right now. It’s hard to focus on one story when my mind is constantly occupied with other things I want to write, including an original version of Shades of Fifty. Obviously, it’s going to take a lot of work to make this story an original, and I’ve been fairly cognizant of the changes that I want to make as I’ve been writing. However, with the Final Shade of Fifty, a lot of what I’ve written won’t translate to the changes I’m going to make on the revamp, and therefore will not really progress the story in any meaningful way. I kind of feel like I’m just giving myself double work, which has been a huge demotivator.

I have been writing another story behind the scenes, which I planned to post once The Final Shade of Fifty was finished, but since TFSOF was what I was actually posting, that was the story that had to take precedent when it came down to my writing time and since I obviously haven’t been doing much writing for TFSOF, you can guess how much writing I’ve done for my other story. Therefore, I’ve decided that I’m going to start working on making Shades of Fifty original now, and will move on to the other stories I want to tell once I’ve brought these characters to their conclusion.

But what to do with what’s already posted for The Final Shade of Fifty?

I’m going to remove it.

It doesn’t seem like a good idea to leave a half-finished story that I’m not even passionate about sitting on the site for new readers to come a long and be like… wait, that’s the end? WTF?!!! So, I’m going to leave it to you all. Do you want me to make a shareable PDF of the story for you all to have? Or is everyone okay letting it go, like me? I will leave Different, Broken, and Stronger up, at least until I’m finished with the original versions, and I will let you all know with plenty of time before I remove them. I’m also considering putting them back on FanFiction now that I’m not going to be actively updating, because it’ll reach a wider audience there and since they’ve been down for two years, there’s probably a whole new slew of readers who haven’t read it yet. But we’ll see.

The good news is, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be active on Facebook and Twitter and I plan on keeping you updated with where I’m at on getting Shades of Fifty done. And since you all have been such a huge part of how this story came to be, I’d really like to keep you all involved as much as possible. Characters have to be renamed and re-imagined, I’d love your input. I’m probably going to make some kind of pen name, but I have no idea where to start with that. I’d love suggestions! I’m also in desperate need of Beta readers. If you’re interested in taking part of that at all, please let me know in the comments section.

So, obviously, this isn’t good-bye. Just… an extended break (from posting). My goal is to have a new original to present to you all by the end of the year. I’m excited, I hope you are too!!

And even though his name will change, I’ll always be wishingmrgreywashere.

Lots of love,

Tara xx

Edit: I know everyone wants the HEA, so should I post an epilogue to follow Stronger?

  1. I’m sad now, but also excited for you and your plans.
I’m confused though, is it the end for TFSOF? Will you come back to it one day or should we make up some kind of HEA for them?

And I’ll read anything you post, I’ve been with you since the beginning and I’ll be there when you end.

    Good luck!

      1. Tara such a mix of happy news and sad news, but you need to do what makes you happiest as the writer as it is your journey and we are all just along for the ride. But saying that WHAT A RIDE IT HAS BEEN… so thank you for your words and imagination. An epilogue would be a brilliant way to finish this out and i too would love to have a copy to reread. All the best for your other writing and cant wait to read it!.

    1. I completely understand your going forward with a new story and hope for a HEA with this story. I have read this entire work 3 times and am in love with your writing style. I simply love your style of telling this yarn from the beginning. Will be waiting here with bated breath and thank you for sharing your talent.

Thank you for all the hours you have spent on entertaining your readers

  4. Wow, Tara, that’s a lot of news. First off, Happy New Year! Hope you were able to chill out and enjoy the holidays. Exciting news on the original work, that’s very cool; I’ll think on some character names and pass then along; sadly Sid and Nancy are already taken and would probably be a bit of a downer.

Second, I don’t know what the hell happened but really Seahawks? 20-22 against Dallas?? Not cool.

Third, thank you for always being open with us (when you don’t have to) and keeping us abreast of what is going on with you and your stories. It’s so cool that an author wants her fans to be a part of the process via suggestions, inviting readers to have an open dialogue, etc. That said, I would love to be a beta for you, if you’re still needing folks…..I can spot an edit gaff a mile away! Plus, I meet deadlines and have an eye for content and flow, so….let me know.

Finally, in answer to another question you posed, YES! I personally would love a pdf version of TFSOF and I think others would, too. I love what has been written so far and don’t care in the slightest that it’s being put on hiatus…to me, that just means you care enough to want to finish it when you’re in the right mindset. Plus, I think a lot of folks would be sad if we couldn’t drop in to read a chappy or two now and again. Just sayin’.

Thanks again for the check-in. I’m curious to see what others will say to the questions you posed.

    1. Yes, yes, yes! I’d love to have your help Beta-ing. We need some kind of way to get in contact with each other privately. I have access to your email address you use to subscribe to my blog, is it okay if I contact you there?

    2. Hi I’ve been a long time reader, however I haven’t ever had the guts to comment 😦 now that your thinking of taking this series down I would love to have a pdf copy, even if it isn’t finished, I still love the passion and I would always love to come back and take the journey again. But I would also love to read the re-imagining of it as well when it gets to that point of course. Let me know what I need to do if there’s anything besides my email 🙂 thanks for all your hard work and dedication

  5. I have to admit that I’ve been thinking for the past 3 Monday’s “hmmm i hope I get an email with a chapter today!”. I saw the email and totally stopped working with excitement. Now I’m a frown face. Just kidding – You are a fantastic writer. Your story (IMO) is better than the books. I will read anything you write, knowing in advance I will be thrilled with it. That said, I’ll be sad to see this end. I see you already mentioned it, but maybe an epilogue that will give everyone a HEA or tie up some of the loose ends. Another thought is an epilogue that jumps forward many years? (let’s say a 10 or 20 year jump or so?). I read one story on FF where they did that – jumped like 50 years and told by one of the children what happened and it was nice. Just a thought.

Next – PDF’s would be great. I can’t forget what I already read but maybe if there was an epilogue I would try :). But i like re-reading these stories. I’ve done it about 5 times now I think.

Lastly – I would DIE to be a BETA. I’ve never done it but would love to.

  6. I get it. Go with your gut and remove the story. It’s your story and your decision. That doesn’t belong in our hands. I will say, I feel like you could leave the three books as they stand and maybe just do another epilogue of highlights through the years that are what you wanted the final shade to be in your new version. More of a summary. Just a thought. That way it’s done and dusted. This book has been hard to get into. Your writing, as always, is amazing, but the characters feel so different I couldn’t fully invest like I could in the other three books. Does that make sense? Look forward to your original work. Good luck and thank you for a great ride!

    1. Here’s where I was going with this story. For three books, Christian was the one who caused the issue and Ana had to ‘save’ him essentially. With Final, I wanted to write a story where Christian had to be the one to save her and it just didn’t work. But I have an idea of how I want to change it, and I like it much better, but I couldn’t get there with what was already posted. 😦

      1. You can always remove the chapters and start over, when you feel like it. I want to explain myself further in another comment when I have the time to explain it properly to you, but first of all, I have to say that you have all the power of your stories, but thank you to have us in your thoughts. But my fan part can’t be happy that there isn’t anymore Mondays of exciting waiting, and I was so happy when you decided to extend the series that now that is turning into disappointment. Not because of you!!! But because I was waiting for a book that it won’t be finished, and I have to let that expectstions down. But know that I support you all the way, because you deserve it, and because besides all that I am so grateful that you could stop instead of doing something you’re not proud of.

And if you want more help in beta-ing, you can count with me! I’ve never done it before but I find it so exciting! But I have to say that I’m Spanish and that English is not my first language (you only have to read this message that I didn’t have time to re-read), but sometimes there are some typo “mistakes” that internationally aren’t well seen, and I know those all, so I may be helpful if you want to extend your originals for all the native and not native.
See you soon, and I’ll be whising mr grey was here too.

        Andie

Ps: I want to post some comment maybe tomorrow more extensed about my thoughts, because I don’t wanna give you any misunderstandings.

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put in to these stories for us and I hope you will be back sooner rather than later.

  10. I think it up to you, go with your gut. If you want to remove it. Remove it. That’s your call, not ours. I’d love to see an epilogue of how you envisioned TFSOF – to wrap things up. That way it’s done and dusted. Just a thought. Your writing, as always, is great, but it’s been hard to invest in these characters – they are so far removed from the characters we fell in love in with- it’s gely like a different story vs. a continuation. Looking forward to your originals.

  19. You need to go where your muses take you and lets be honest it really isn’t like you have a choice. All Stories have a mind of their own more so with multiple book sagas like this amazing epic journey that you’ve shared with us all. Perhaps this one just needed to be a trilogy and no matter what you originally planned a fourth book just wasn’t in the cards at least for now with this fantastic journey.

Honestly, this one seemed like an entirely different story altogether vigalantee/mentally broken Ana and Christian’s obsession for power and clean energy over sacrificing his own father’s mayoral career or getting justice made zero sense to me after Carrick had fought and won an epic battle himself. It just seemed like they were both self-destructing only in different ways. Ana’s crippling debilitating terror and Christian’s impossible vow to never be weak again no matter the cost. I just couldn’t see where you were going with this and how you’d ever truly get them to an HEA without sacrificing their family in the process. The first three were beyond brilliant, but with this one I’ve been lost since nearly the start. But I would love an epilogue too wrap things up if possible.

Happy New Year. I wish good luck in your journey to bring this to life as an original.

To me it’s either Christian and Ana, or Darcy and Elizabeth or none at all. 33. I remember when I first heard about your fanfiction. I was on twitter and one of the Fifty Shades Of Grey fan pages that I follow had tweeted a quote from your writing. I remember vividly how I took immediate action to find out where this was coming from. I was digging through the comments like I had gone mad messaging every single person that said something about it and even messaged the fan page in hopes to have someone lead to me to where the source of the quote was coming from. When I finally got it I read immediately. I became a devoted fan much later than the rest. When I found wishingmrgreywashere, which was a little over a year ago, there were already all three books up. It took me a literal week to finish them all because of how amazing, pure, and beautiful they were written. It was the type of writing and book that demanded to be read the minute you dive in. I found myself reading every single second I was able to until I had finished. I remember when I finished the three books messaging all my book loving friends the link saying “This is the most best thing I have ever read. I am so in love with these books! If you love me and trust me as a good source for good reads, you will NOT regret reading this.” forcing them to read it. TFSOF was to be starting up in the next few months after I had finished ASSOF. From that point on I have been a usual checking the page daily for updates or new chapters. I am not one who comments, mainly because I know how far behind I am reading these compared to the others and so right now felt like the most appropriate and right time to leave you with my feedback, admiration, and love. I just wanted to take the time to express how much your writing has not only changed my reading life, but my life as a whole. You have opened a complete brand new world to me. Your writing for the characters in this story and how you reimagined it have helped change the way I look in love, people, friends, life and the world itself. I cannot begin to thank you enough for being so gifted and taking the time to share it with not only me, but every single fan and supporter you have. I am both extremely sad and understanding to hear you putting TFSOF on hold indefinitely. Today has been non stop bad news for me though, so I am personally glad you chose today to rip the bandaid off because if you waited until tomorrow or any later I am almost positive I would of had an ugly crying attack. 😉 Like the others I would also love a PDF of TFSOF. I just recently finished re-reading these books for the third time now. These are my favorite books, and that is meaning a lot simply to me even, that I would love to be able to re-read when wanted, be able to share with other people I love, and to be able to reflect and find comfort in myself when needed by reading your work. I consider books the best therapy, and they way you made these characters come alive with all their each new and different personalities it has taught me a great deal. Your writing is something I hold very dear to me and at high regards. I would completely and entirely lose myself if they were to be gone forever. Thank you for creating this whole new world in reading for me. Thank you for always keeping your fans and supporters posted and connecting in the comments and stories with us all when you really never had to. Thank you for being so gifted and kind enough to share it with the rest of us. Thank you for giving me personally, and all of us, wishingmrgreywashere. I know you’re doing what you see is best in your heart for your fans and your writing. After reading I always thought to myself how much better I find the fanfiction in comparison to the original and always hoped and wished the book and the characters would become renamed and made into your own book and story that would later be published because of how much I love these. You as an author are extremely unique and beautiful in your own individual way is something I have never seen or experienced before or grew such a connection and love to in comparison to any of my other favorite authors. Not only do I know you have easy potential of being New York Times Best-Selling Author, but I can not express in words how excited I am to be able to watch you blossom and read any material of work you present to the world. I look forward to being a fan and supporter to watch you grow and succeed in your writing with every project you pursue and will always be one of your number one fans and supporter. I am immensely proud and excited to see where the future will take you next and look forward to seeing and hearing how it all is for you. I do hope to hear more about these stories you have already written that I have already read and where they go from here, and if you are to ever re-write or finish TFSOF. I also would like to ask, more so hope, that you do keep us posted with anything that you pursue from here on out. I would hate to lose you! With all my encouragement, support, and love. – Janessa.

  34. Well I won’t say I’m not disappointed but… I would really like to say thank you VERY MUCH for not just disappearing and leaving the story hanging there unfinished. I have encountered that so many times on FanFiction. (one story had 1 more chapter to go and has not been finished)

I did notice that the story was not focused in a comprehensible direction and I found myself a little bewildered after reading as to what the heck was the direction. So I think, given the reasons you have stated, you are making a wise decision on this story. But please leave the other 3 “books” intact as they are. I enjoyed them so much and they were the reason I signed up for the weekly chapters. (first time on any writer).

Also I would love to be a beta for you if you would give me a chance. Feel free to contact me by email.

I have to agree with you I wasn’t really feeling this final book . It felt so off compared to the other books . I think in a way Ana seemed a bit of brat in some chapters . For the final book I was hoping on seeing them get through the emotional damage that Lincoln did to them and seeing them grow more as a couple and planning for more children.
One thing I never got was why Sawyer stopped being her CPO .
And good luck with the plans that you have for your future . I was hooked to your stories from the moment I found them on fanfiction and I sometimes go back and re read them all over again

  38. Tara,

I am not sure what the requirements are to be a beta reader, but I would love the opportunity. I have loved your stories, and I love to read.

    Thank you,

  39. I would love to see you rewrite this final story. If we’re all being honest, this last book seemed to be taking a completely direction, and I had considered not reading further, but you sucked me in with the drama. And now I am sad that I will never know what happens to Ray’s girlfriend, or Ana’s boss..

I’d love a PDF copy though because i have been considering rereading your story (even though I just did that back in September I think)

  40. Hi,
I’m sad to hear you are Taking a break from this story. I have loved reading all of your chapters every week.
I would love a pdf of your stories (if you will be deleting them and will not post them anywhere else). This would give me a chance to reread them and appreciate your stories again!
And yes please for the epilogue!
Can’t wait to see what you write next! Good luck!

  41. Oh wow. Have you taken down AFSOF yet? I came in late and have read last few chapters. Went back a read first three,( OMGoodness), and am finishing last POV. Is there another way to read AFSOF please? Am truly looking forward to your future works. Epilogue to ASSOF would be lovely. After the books and now your post I full of all kinds of emotions. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. 🤗🤗❤️❤️
